Building Confident, School-Ready Children in Cumbernauld
The years before school are precious, and at Craigard, we take that seriously. Our pre-school room supports children aged 3 to 5 through a programme that is play-based, intentional, and fully aligned to Curriculum for Excellence and Realising the Ambition. We focus on building the whole child: language, independence, social skills, resilience, and the quiet confidence that comes from feeling genuinely capable.
What Makes Our Ages 3–5 years Room Special
The years before school are precious — and at Craigard, we take that seriously. Our pre-school room supports children aged 3 to 5 through a programme that is play-based, intentional, and fully aligned to Curriculum for Excellence and Realising the Ambition. We focus on building the whole child: language, independence, social skills, resilience, and the quiet confidence that comes from feeling genuinely capable.
Most children aged 3 and over are entitled to up to 1140 funded childcare hours through the Scottish Government’s Early Learning and Childcare Offer. As a North Lanarkshire Council registered provider, we can apply funded hours directly to your child’s pre-school place. See our Fees & Funding page →
Learning & Development
We support development in:
- Early literacy: stories, early writing, phonological awareness
- Early numeracy: counting, patterns, measurement
- STEM play: exploring how things work
- Social skills: working with others, sharing ideas, problem-solving
- Emotional regulation and confidence
Learning is child-led, with practitioners extending children’s ideas through high-quality interactions.

How This Supports Their Learning
By the time children leave Craigard for Primary 1, they are ready, not just academically, but emotionally and socially. They know how to listen, take turns, express themselves, and manage their own feelings. They are curious, resilient, and excited about learning. We work closely with parents in the final months before transition, sharing observations, discussing next steps, and making sure every child — and every family — feels prepared and confident.
